Recently, Shenzhen Airport announced that the airport transported more than 25 million passengersand reached 6.2% year-on-year increase in the first half of this year. Shenzhen Airport continues to accelerate the development of its international services, with international passenger routes reaching 50 cities in the world. This signifies Shenzhen Airport's entry to a new stage of developing an international aviation hub.

Six New International Air Routes Opened in Half a Year

Shenzhen Airport is the portal for Shenzhen to open up to the world and the core airport in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Shenzhen has the mission and responsibility to speed up the development of an international aviation hub by assuming the role of strategic engine, while driving the urban, economic, and social development of the Bay Area.

Shenzhen Airport opened 15 new international routes last year and continued its efforts in expanding international route services by opening six new international passenger routes to cities such as Johannesburg, Tel Aviv, Dublin, and Rome in the first half of this year. While improving its airline network, Shenzhen Airport also implemented the 144-hour visa-free transit policy in May this year, making it more convenient for international air passengers to travel to cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area via Shenzhen Airport.

With increasing numbers of air routes and convenient customs clearance, more passengers are choosing to enter and exit China via Shenzhen Airport. From January to June this year, Shenzhen Airport witnessed an international (excluding regional) passenger throughput of 2.448 million, a year-on-year increase of 30.6%, and the international passengers accounted for nearly 10% of the total passenger volume. The development of international services contributed to the steady growth of airport passengers. In the first half of this year, Shenzhen Airport achieved a passenger throughput of 25.837 million, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%.

Flight Release Rate More Than 85%

In the first half of this year, Shenzhen Airport served 181,000 scheduled flights, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%. With more than 1000 flights per day and adverse weather impact this year, Shenzhen Airport archived a normal flight rate of 85.42%, which is slightly higher than the same period last year. It used measures such as implementing the joint operations control mechanisms proposed by the operations management committee, strengthening the operations linkage with air traffic management and airlines, and fully tapping into resources for stable operations.

Shenzhen Airport focuses on the needs of passengers by providing convenient boarding experiences through sincere, intelligent, and personalized services such as self-service security inspection using facial recognition and self-service check-in kiosks that no longer differentiate between airlines. Shenzhen Airport launched China's first leisure waiting space, a “flagship” nursing mothers room, and a handheld luggage service, which have been highly praised by many passengers. In the first quarter of this year's ACI passenger service satisfaction evaluation, Shenzhen Airport ranked 12th among the world's airports, and won the best airport, best airport service and facilities, and other honors accredited by CAPSE in 2018.
